 GLAZE NOTES-PORCELAIN

Gunmetal Green & Archie's Base

*****GORGEOUS combination! Sequence of application MATTERS.

Clay: Porcelain

Firing: slow speed, cone 5

Application: fully loaded fan brush

Let glaze dry between applications. Do NOT apply glaze too thickly in the bottom of a vessel as Archie's Base tends to bubble.

1.  Apply 2 coats of matte black around bottom of bowl

2. Apply 2 coats of GMG (gunmetal green)

3. Apply 2 coats of Archie's base but don't go clear to the bottom of the vessel: 3/4 of the way is enough I think.

4. ???Possibly one more coat of archie's base on the rim?????

 Gunmetal Green

-NEVER use 4 coats. It runs, gets flat looking and shiny.

-Clay: porcelain

Firing: slow speed, cone 5

Application: fully loaded fan brush

Number of coats: no more than 3. Works well with other glazes.

Hot Running Chowder

-Very runny. Use on top 2/3 of a piece.

-Don't use it too thickly as it turns white.

-Nice one the rim of pieces.

Archie's Base

-Runny, but not nearly as much as chowder. Use  all over or on top 3/4 of a piece.

-Alone it is an eggshell to pink glaze. works best with other glazes.

Clay: porcelain

Firing: slow speed cone 5

Application: full loaded fan brush

Coats: 2-3

Refiring SH Spray Glazes-Warm Palette

If the liner crawls, you can put a glob of a thick glaze (ie. Oxblood) directly over the problems and refire at a slow cone 5. some of the glazes drab out a bit and lose some microcrystals in a refire, but it works!!  No surface prep needed before applying the thick repair glaze. However, the exterior glazes will run with a 2nd firing and may need a Dremel grinding.

Refiring  Celadon

It works! Slow cone 5 fire. The color lightens up a bit but there is no running.

Purple Satin Layered Glazes

Pansy Purple first  all over( do not know how many coats but probably 2-3). Then Blue Purple on the top third and red Gold in the middle, either 1 or 23 coats of each.

I would try 2 coats of Pansy Purple all over with 3 coats on the bottom 1/3. Then 1 or 2 coats of Blue Purple and just one coat of red Gold.
